E-Commerce and Latino Market Series

Trend Dependent Markets Must Utilize Trend Centered Populations

Best Buy has been a leader in a total Spanish E-Commerce Market Mix that includes web, mobile and traditional print media in English and in Spanish to ensure it maximizes the reach of the global market. To do this in a cost efficient manner, Best Buy has utilized the services of Bixal (http://www.bixal.com/), a leading marketer connecting businesses to Hispanics markets. Best Buy’s launch of a total Spanish website in 2007 of www.BestBuy.com/espanol marked the trend for larger corporations to launch sites that allow users to view content including products, service plans, and gift cards in Spanish. Best Buy took the next step by allowing Spanish speaking consumer to click and instantly be connected to Spanish speaking customer service representatives. Best Buy is not the only large company to take this approach, Verizon (http://www.espanol.verizon.com), and even Nike (http://www.nike.com/nikeos/p/nike/language_select/) who separates their Spanish into three categories (Spain, Latin America, and Mexico). And why not, Bixal states U.S. Hispanic and Latin American markets offer near limitless potential for organizations to engage dynamic, influential, and tech savvy communities. Bixal further adds that Hispanics are the largest minority in the U.S., with roughly 50 million – Hispanics represent 15% of the total U.S. population, and Hispanics currently have a spending power of $951 billion prediction to reach 1 Trillion by end of 2011. With such a vast territory like this its no doubt that competitive companies and corporation need to utilize E-Commerce for Spanish language markets.

Facebook Now Pays Users 10 Cents To Watch Certain Ads

Facebook introduced a program Thursday that offers consumers a financial incentive to watch ads on the site.Facebook will now reward users who watch certain ads with Facebook Credits, which can be redeemed to purchase goods on Facebook Deals, the company’s new Groupon-like daily deals service. The incentive, however, is not huge. Initially, the average ad will yield one credit, which is equivalent to 10 cents.
The ads will mostly be in games. CrowdStar, Digital Chocolate and Zynga are among the participating game publishers. Facebook is working with Sharethrough, SocialVibe, Epic Media and SupersonicAds to serve ads on the program as well as TrialPay, which will provide analytics.
Dan Greenberg, CEO of Sharethrough, says Facebook’s move represents “a step away from interruptive advertising.” Greenberg, whose clients include Microsoft and Nestle, says his network won’t deliver traditional advertising but rather branded entertainment, which consumers will want to watch and share with friends.
Incentivizing consumers to watch ads is one solution for Facebook’s low banner click-through rates. The move comes after Facebook expanded its Credits program last week to let consumers use the Credits to buy real-world goods advertised in Deals. Previously, the credits, which were awarded for consumers who signed up for various programs (like magazine subscriptions) or bought outright could only buy virtual goods.

Youtube Founders Acquire Social Media Analytics Company Tap11

Hot on the heels of their acquisition of Delicious, YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen are adding to their new startup with the addition of real-time business intelligence platform Tap11.com.Tap11 and Delicious will both be part of AVOS, the Internet company led by Hurley and Chen.
Tap11 is an analytics platform that focuses on Twitter (it has access to the firehose) and Facebook, but it can also be linked to other social and publishing accounts. It’s part of a growing industry of single-dashboard reporting tools that are designed for marketers and community managers looking to better gauge social media ROI.
Salesforce.com recently acquired Radian6 and this acquisition makes it clear that analytics and reporting tools are going to continue to be a hot area moving into the second half of 2011 and beyond.
The Tap11 acquisition provides important context to the Delicious purchase. In a statement announcing the acquisition, Tap11 CTO Braxton Woodham said,
“We plan to leverage our Volume algorithm to fully measure the impact of content consumed and shared across the social ecosystem. In combination with Delicious.com, we will be able to provide consumers and publishers with deep, relevant insights and recommendations.”
In other words, it’s the data wrapped up inside the Delicious ecosystem that makes it valuable. From a reporting perspective, publishers and marketers could potentially get better insight into how many people bookmark, tag, share or discover a link using Delicious. For certain types of engagement, this could be very powerful.
In theory, of course, this is what Yahoo was trying to do with Delicious. The company simply never found a way to monetize or better integrate that data with its other tools.
Before being acquired by LastPass, bookmark service Xmarks was also trying to find a way to monetize bookmarking data.
By having both a robust reporting and analytics platform and access to millions of bookmarks and interaction data, AVOS could be onto something.

FOR THE LATEST MOBILE AD TRENDS....

Check out the Google Mobile Ad Channel via youtube on the bottom left below MR BIZZ to see what one of the industry leaders is up to!

WHAT IS MOBILE ADVERTISING?

DEFINITION:
Mobile advertising is the communication of messages or media content to one or more potential customers who use mobile devices.

WHATS THIS MEAN:
This results in advertising that is tailored to you the consumer ranging from simple text messaging to intelligent interactive ad messages. Mobile advertisers create ads and marketing campaigns that define demographic profiles.

HOW DOES IT ALL WORK:
The ads get to you the user through the mobile advertising system. The figure below shows how a mobile advertising system can work. In this example, a company creates and submits a small banner ad to a mobile advertising network and selects the location, time and category as the ad promotion criteria. The mobile advertising network submits these ads to multiple mobile networks and keeps track of the transmission, selection and response to these ads. The mobile system operators review the capabilities of the mobile devices in their network to determine which devices can receive and respond to mobile ads.
